Following the success of Faces of the Night at the 1999 Festival, Frank Soehnle returns with another offbeat masterpiece from the Figurentheater Tübingen repertoire. Set in the seedy, demi-mondaine Flamingo Bar, a tale of seduction and desire unfolds - a wordless intermezzo for fans, shoes, and every sort of puppet object and animated figure.
It should be hard to believe that sticks, rags and strings
- no more than can be carried in one hand - could elicit such emotion, laughter
and curiosity, but the German puppeteer Frank Soenhle makes it easy to accept.
None of the puppets is large and Soenhle never tries to hide the work of his
hands, yet the puppets are exquisitely suggestive and their movements hint fleetingly,
as though out of the corner of your eye, at outrageous lust and longing.
