Theatre de l'Ange Fou returns to the Festival with an adaptation of Nikolai Gogol's
celebrated satire on bureaucracy and corruption in provincial, nineteenth century
Russia. Aided by a highly atmospheric lighting design, this large cast production
brings out all of the story's grotesque comedy in a seamless flow of memorable
stage pictures. Nominated for both The Stage 'Best Ensemble Acting Award' and
for a 'Total Theatre Award' at the 2002 Edinburgh Fringe. London-based Theatre
de l'Ange Fou is a fifteen-strong ensemble comprising eleven different nationalities.
Steve Wasson and Corinne Soum, founders of the company and directors of this production
were the last assistants to the 'father of modern mime', the late Etienne Decroux.
